The importance of making time for yourself

In life, the moments you feel like you can’t afford to take a break are usually the moments a break is needed. When you’re stressed or overwhelmed, remove yourself from whatever situation you’re dealing with at that moment, and consider how you may be able to rearrange your time differently, where you put things to the side and make yourself a priority. Prioritizing time to reflect on whether you’re living the life you want to live can be a real challenge. Some people are faced with family commitments, work deadlines/responsibilities and a long to-do lists; therefore, making “me time” to explore new possibilities a bit difficult.

All to often, we take care of everything else; but forget to care for ourselves. Balance is very important, we preach it to others, but how often do we live it?

Make it a point to schedule some “me time” on a weekly basis. Figure out what’s important and prioritize. Ask yourself, what can wait until next week? Free yourself from your daily routine in order to figure out what truly makes you happy.

Step outside of the box; try something new and exciting, like dance classes attend a concert or local festival. One of the most rewarding outcomes of taking time for self is developing a real appreciation of new possibilities. This can be a difficult task when you’re caught up in daily routines and feel guilty for thinking of yourself however; when your well being isn’t a priority a lot of things in your life are affected, sleep, health, stress levels, loss of creativity etc. Al in all, when you focus on self you begin to naturally live a happy and healthy life. Try it sometime
