Happiness Is Contagious
There is a lilt people carry in their voice, a smile that lives in their eyes, and both pass from person to person without anyone trying. Spend time around small children and you notice it fastest. A kid in a good mood will tip you into one too, and nudging them toward that mood takes almost nothing.
Most of the time we look and fail to see, hear and fail to listen. When we are rushing toward the next place we need to be or the next thing we have to finish, the information in front of us slips by unprocessed. Slow down and something odd surfaces: the smiles of children actually sparkle, and their voices come out with a kind of tune in them. They hand out happiness freely, and it catches.
When what we see or hear does not fit what we expect, the easy move is to deny it. But people give themselves away constantly. Read an expression closely and you pick up more than the words carry, enough to understand someone a little better and maybe be of use to them.
So pass it along. The day can go like a bowl of cherries or a box of chocolates, and a fair amount of that is a decision you make. Think about the mornings you climbed out on the wrong side of the bed. The whole day paid for it. Watch how you begin, and if the start keeps going sour, change the way you do it. Do that for your own sake.
